One of our students has successfully auditioned for a place as a Junior Associate at Merseyside Dance and Drama Centre. Aged 11, she only started Ballet, Tap and Modern just over a year ago. She has worked incredibly hard and has also taken numerous exams (achieving high Distinctions in them all!) in the short time she has been dancing with us. Her audition was a full afternoon of Ballet, Jazz, and Musical Theatre/Drama classes. As a Junior Associate, she will continue her core training with us, but will attend JA classes on Sundays, studying Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, Drama and Musical Theatre, Merseyside Dance and Drama Centre is a highly-regarded full-time dance college (16+) that trains students in preparation for a career in Jazz/Musical Theatre. Past students have worked to great acclaim – credits including West End productions such as in Cats, Grease, West Side Story, Chicago, Miss Saigon, The King and I. We have now been successfully training students in Bury for the last 38 years.
Besides all these many years of experience, we have a list of success stories that grows each year! Four of our Junior students enjoyed a fantastic morning with Birmingham Royal Ballet at The Lowry Theatre, Salford. The morning started with a ballet class, and they then learnt an extract from Romeo and Juliet. Parents and families were then invited to watch a performance by the girls of the extract, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed! The teacher was Andrea Tredinnick (ex-Royal Ballet School and ex-Birmingham Royal Ballet for twenty four years, eighteen of which as a first soloist), and the class was held in the beautiful Compass Room at The Lowry. We were delighted to receive a copy of our ISTD January-March 2016 official magazine for teachers, and to see that a photo of our student (who was a finalist at the ISTD Imperial Ballet Junior Awards at the Radlett Centre, Hertfordshire earlier this year) has been chosen to appear in the magazine! This magazine is sent to the ISTD's 7000+ members across 60 countries! ...And what a beautiful technical sauté being performed in the photo! One of our students had a fantastic time this morning participating in a workshop with English National Ballet, based on the ballet 'Romeo and Juliet', at The Palace Theatre, Manchester.
The workshop took place on the stage of the Palace Theatre, where they learnt extracts from Rudolf Nureyev's choreography. Congratulations to one of our Junior students, who reached the finals of the ISTD Imperial Classical Ballet Junior Awards 2015. The competition was held in Radlett, Hertfordshire, on stage in The Radlett Centre theatre on Sunday 25th October, in front of a panel of adjudicators. There were 90 competitors in the class from all across the UK, with only 27 reaching the finals. Our students were very excited for World Ballet Day (1st October), and they expressed to us their wish to be involved in the celebration of this day. Some of our Junior students gave a small presentation on a ballet, and a few students had done some beautiful drawings for us. We finished off the evening by everyone in groups creating their own short version of either Swan Lake or Coppélia (using ballet steps and traditional ballet mime). The evening was very educational, and a lot of fun was had by all! Three of our students had a fantastic time this morning participating in a workshop by Birmingham Royal Ballet at The Lowry, Salford, based on their latest touring production of Swan Lake - the teacher was Andrea Tredinnick (ex-Royal Ballet School and ex-Birmingham Royal Ballet for twenty four years, eighteen of which as a first soloist) The morning started with a ballet class, and later on, the girls learnt a section from Swan Lake, before performing it for parents. All the students thoroughly enjoyed themselves! |
