Jacqui's childhood training began as a pupil of Cynthia Hancock, Mary Archbutt School and The Hammond School Saturday programme. After gaining her Advanced Vocational grades, Jacqui then began teacher training with the RAD and ISTD at Merseyside Dance and Drama Centre, gaining her Associates in Imperial Ballet and Modern Theatre, and RAD teachers qualifications in the children’s and vocational syllabus.
After opening her own school, Jacqui continued to study to gain her Associate Diploma, Licentiate Assesment, and more recently the Diploma in Dance Pedagogy in Classical Ballet. Throughout her career and the growth of her own School and its valuable team, her passion has remained teaching. Teaching children and more recently supporting other teachers is what Jacqui enjoy – she currently coaches and enters candidates to Advanced 2 level, including analysis teacher exams. Jacqui has a love of learning and is currently aiming towards her Fellowship or Masters qualification in ballet. We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Johanna has been shortlisted for the Royal Academy of Dance’s ‘Innovation in Dance’ Award 2024!
From 312 nominations globally, Johanna is one of only four nominees and the only teacher in the UK to be shortlisted for this award. The award celebrates an individual who has introduced new techniques and fostered a fresh perspective, with an ability to inspire, engage and shape the future of dance through innovative approaches and ideas. Johanna's online international ballet programme has removed boundaries for accessibility to dance training. Her work currently spans 17 countries, and has reached the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia. Johanna's regular weekly online teaching includes a vibrant community of online classes for children aged 7-18, adults, Silver Swans®, and supporting sportspeople, such as gymnasts and skaters, with online ballet classes to enhance their training. Johanna is a relentless advocate for Silver Swans®, frequently featuring in the media. She regularly delivers online ballet classes for charities – the Royal Voluntary Service (in their Virtual Village Hall) and Carers UK (in their Share and Learn sessions), alongside hosting free, accessible online annual Silver Swans® events for Silver Sunday (Sir Simon Milton Foundation) and the Age of Creativity (Age UK). Johanna has also worked as Associate Artist for People Dancing in their online Dance for Parkinson's classes. The winner will be announced on Sunday 21st April 2024 and we have our fingers crossed!
