One student, currently studying on the Classical Ballet course at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts, is to appear in English National Ballet's production of Nutcracker at the London Coliseum. It is the second year that she has been cast in this production.
The other student, currently studying in his first year at Elmhurst Ballet School, has been cast in Birmingham Royal Ballet's The Nutcracker at the Royal Albert Hall in London. It is the second year that he has been cast in this production – last year, he successfully auditioned for this production while still a pupil at our school.
On Sunday 25th November we welcomed Michael Berkin from Professional Dance Experience to our school. Students who attended the workshop experienced a ballet class and were taught repertoire from the ballet, Sleeping Beauty.
Michael Berkin gave three workshops throughout the afternoon. He gave a very technical and inspirational ballet class, which culminated with a short demonstration for parents at the end of each class.
The children all worked very hard in the workshops and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Michael Berkin is a former Head Boy at the Royal Ballet School after having trained there for eight years. Michael then went on to a professional career, dancing with companies such as Birmingham Royal Ballet, Royal New Zealand Ballet, Ballet Ireland and Northern Ballet. He has also toured throughout China, New Zealand, Thailand, UK and Republic of Ireland.
Darcey Bussell: Dancing to Happiness
Saturday 1st December
Sunday 7th October marked Silver Sunday UK – a nation-wide day of free events and activities for older people. Silver Sunday is led by the Sir Simon Milton Foundation.
As part of the celebrations, we hosted a free Silver Swans® ballet class – and we were delighted that the event was fully booked nearly two weeks before.
The sixteen new Silver Swans who attended were given an hour long ballet class followed by refreshments and a chat. A very enjoyable afternoon was had by all – and we loved being involved in the Silver Sunday celebrations!
Thank you to four of our current Silver Swans, and also to our pianist for helping to make it such a great success.
