Why does ballet help sports?Ballet provides careful and technical training, helping athletes understand the way their body moves, adding grace, poise, strength and flexibility.
Whether it’s working on fundamental movements to ensure that the leg is fully extended or advanced sequences for co-ordination and placement, ballet gives a finesse to movements that is unparalleled by any other training method. |
What is Ballet for Sports?
Prices start from:
£5.50 a class Ballet can improve many aspects of sports training as it helps with strength, posture, flexibility, leg and arm lines, footwork, control, musicality and performance. In our Ballet for Sports pathway programme, we provide weekly online ballet and conditioning training, taught live on Zoom for athletes who wish to use the benefits of ballet to enhance their sports training. These classes are widely attended by athletes of artistic sports such as artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, figure skating and artistic roller skating (Dance, Figures and Free). However, the benefits of ballet training is not limited to just these sports – we've also helped people training in sports such as football, netball and swimming. |
Did you know?
There are many examples of famous sports people who have attributed their ballet training to enhancing their sports – including Rio Ferdinand, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Jordan, Jayne Torvill & Christopher Dean. |
In order for ballet to benefit sports training, ballet tuition must be provided at a highly technical level by an experienced tutor. By joining the Janet Lomas School of Dancing's Ballet for Sports programme, you will be working with an experienced tutor who understands the specific requirements for using ballet to enhance sports training. With online training, you are joining a supportive community of like-minded sportspeople – and wherever your training or competitions take you in the world, you can continue to access our training in live online classes. Plus, you will have the opportunity to access workshops, exclusively organised for athletes on our Ballet for Sports programme.
Whether it’s working on fundamental movements to ensure that the leg is fully extended or advanced sequences for co-ordination and intricate footwork, ballet gives a finesse to movements that is unparalleled by any other training method. |

At the Janet Lomas School of Dancing, we offer performance skills and artistry coaching for competitions. Our 1-to-1 online sessions are taught by Johanna – with her advanced training in ballet, jazz and contemporary, Johanna works with skaters to enhance the performance elements in competition programmes and develop arm choreography. Permission must be sought from your current coach. |
Miss Johanna is a fully-qualified, experienced dance teacher, with a strong background in music. It is the combination of these skills that she uses to develop artistry, musicality and performance skills. Unlike the standard basic ballet teacher training, Johanna has taken further teacher training in Vaganova ballet method (the most beneficial ballet training method used for skaters) and her Licentiate in Imperial Classical Ballet. Specifically to help the skaters she works with, Johanna has also trained with a Ballet for Skaters coach in the USA. This provides a unique combination of experience, quality and highly specialised training for the skaters on the Janet Lomas School of Dancing's Ballet for Sports programme
