On Sunday 26th February, we held a Contemporary Dance Workshop with Darren Pritchard for students at our school. For many students, this was their first experience of contemporary dance, and they thoroughly enjoyed it! It was a wonderful opportunity to have Mr Pritchard as not only is his knowledge of the contemporary style extensive, but his professional experience and many years of teaching in this genre meant that his workshop was very technical and detailed – we are sure that we will be inviting him back again in the not too distant future for many more classes/workshops.
Having trained at Northern School of Contemporary Dance, and attended Alvin Ailey Summer School (New York), Mr Pritchard has worked extensively in the dance sector for many years as an in-demand performer, teacher and choreographer. He has worked as a dancer in Wayne McGregor's world-famous Random Dance Company. Mr Pritchard has taught at The Hammond School, Northern Ballet School and Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), to name but a few, and his choreography has been used widely on TV, in music videos and TV commercials. Mr Pritchard is also the recipient of the Art Award for Outstanding Work with Children and Young People, Connell Award for Work with Children and Young People, the Rayne Fellowship for Choreographers and is a Manchester International Festival (MIF) Creative Fellow. Congratulations to all our students who took ISTD Imperial Classical Ballet examinations recently. We are extremely proud to announce that every student gained a Distinction, and even more so that not one, but three students gained an outstanding 98/100 marks. One of our twelve-year-old students had a fantastic time yesterday attending a workshop given by Kimberly Wyatt at The Dancehouse in Manchester. Kimberly Wyatt is an American singer, dancer and choreographer, but is probably most famous for her time in the Pussycat Dolls, and as a judge on Sky 1's Got To Dance. Our student thoroughly enjoyed the jazz/commercial workshop, starting with a general technique class, followed by learning a short routine. She is very happy to have met and danced for Kimberly, and is over the moon to have received a 'high five' for her amazing side leaps! Congratulations to one of our students who is currently in the process of auditioning for full-time ballet school. So far her offers are: - Tring Park School for Performing Arts - place offered - Moorland International Ballet Academy - place offered - Elmhurst School for Ballet - through to final round - Royal Ballet School - through to final round This is such a fantastic achievement – each year thousands of talented students audition from all across the world, with only 30-50 students reaching the final round. We wish her well for her final rounds and scholarship auditions in the coming months. |
