Online Party!

On Monday 28th July, our senior students enjoyed their first online Zoom party!

We had a good chat, followed by a fun quiz (even joined in by parents and siblings, too!) and we can't wait for our next online party!

It was lovely to be joined also by our past students who are currently studying at full-time ballet school.

Progressing Ballet Technique Level 2 certification

Congratulations to Miss Johanna who has been awarded the next level in her certified teacher training for Progressing Ballet Technique.

All teachers who initially qualify are awarded the Level 1 certified teacher certificate, however Miss Johanna has continued to work to gain her Level 2.

She has continued to work on the multiple modules, including being assessed on the activation of muscle memory for turnout, adage, allegro and batterie, a deep understanding on the extension of PBT exercises and correcting faults. She was also assessed on her anatomical understanding including amendments required to each exercise for differing body types for safe dance practice, and the muscle groups that assist each movement.

Miss Johanna is now only one of a handful of teachers in the UK to hold her Level 2 certificate, and is the only Level 2 certified teacher in Manchester.

Silver Swans® Summer Online Party

Every year we hold a summer party for our Silver Swans®, and on Sunday 19th July, we hosted our first online party for our Silver Swans®!

What a wonderful afternoon it was, with dancing, a quiz and a lot of laughter!

Darcey Bussell

Today marks two years ago since we welcomed Dame Darcey Bussell to our dancing school for her to film her BBC Two documentary 'Darcey Bussell: Dancing to Happiness'.

In 2020, lockdown might have stopped our Silver Swans® from meeting in person, but we're still dancing to happiness over Zoom!

Duke of Edinburgh Award

It has been a pleasure to help one of our fourteen year old students with her Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award this year.

She chose to complete both the 'Physical' and 'Volunteering' sections of the award with our dance school.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award, led by the child's academic school, recognises adolescents and young adults for completing a challenging series of self-improvement exercises (Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition).

Online ballet classes

This summer, we were due to host a large ISTD ballet grades and vocational examination session for our students, however sadly, due to the current situation there were no exams held this summer term.

As we did not wish for our students to be held back, we have given our students the option of moving up into the next grade if they wish.

Therefore, today in our online classes, parents were treated to a special performance of their child's examination work before they move up into the next grade. By doing this, it brought about a sense of performance for all the students and gave a feeling of completion for the grade.

Everybody danced beautifully and we're just so proud of everyone's work ethic throughout lockdown.

Matthew Bourne's New Adventures

Congratulations to two of our Silver Swans® who featured in Matthew Bourne's New Adventure's latest YouTube film, featured on their social media channels.

Following a series of online workshops with the company, the video was filmed in lockdown using Zoom. The short film was created in response to Matthew Bourne's #PlayWithoutWords.
