British Dance Performers Championships - Halifax

Congratulations to four of our students who competed at the British Dance Performers Championships in Halifax on Sunday 29th September.

The students competed in very large sections divided into two initial heats and danced beautifully.

We are very proud to say that all four students who went to the competition successfully qualified for the semi finals and finals. All four students were then awarded a place in the top 6 for their age.

'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' Pantomime

Congratulations to one of our thirteen-year-old Senior students who has successfully auditioned for 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' and has been cast as one of the dwarfs.

Our student will perform alongside professionals from TV, theatre and music.

'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' runs at the Grange Theatre in Oldham from 13th December 2019 - 5th January 2020.

Manchester Royal Voluntary Service Silver Swans®

We were honoured to be invited to teach a Silver Swans® class for Manchester Royal Voluntary Service. This event was part of their 'First Time for Everything' scheme, sponsored by Prudential.

'First Time for Everything' gives people an opportunity to experience new and exciting activities completely free of charge. It was so lovely to teach 22 enthusiastic men and women with such positive feedback after the session in Crumpsall.

Thank you to two of our current Silver Swans® who were such wonderful helpers for the session.

UK Dance Class Championships – Preston

Ages 6-7 (35 entrants)
6th place

Congratulations to two of our junior students who were successful at this weekend's UK Dance Class Championship in Preston.

Once again, the standard was extremely high with all our students reaching the semi finals and finals.

Ages 10-11 (61 entrants)
4th place

It was a very busy weekend with our students split between other dance events and this championship (plus lots of illness!), and our very small team at this competition really did so well – congratulations.

Stagebox Musical Theatre successes

Congratulations to one of our Senior boys and one of our Junior girls who have both successfully auditioned for Stagebox.

Stagebox offers elite musical theatre mentorship and training to children aged 7-18 years old for theatre, TV & film.

They will receive intensive weekly training alongside continuing their dance training with us.

We are very proud of your achievement!

National Dance Workshop

On Sunday 15th September, some of our students participated in a National Dance workshop with guest teacher, Jenna Bradshaw.

It was a wonderful as they had never experienced National Dance before – and they were all beaming throughout the workshop!

Our students were taught steps and dances from England, France, Wales, Denmark, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Austria.

ISTD Imperial Classical Ballet exam successes

Congratulations to students who took ISTD Imperial Classical Ballet exams this summer over two exam days with outstanding results.

All students passed, with 100% of students gaining a Distinction (80/100 and above) with examiners Fiona McGuinness and head ISTD Imperial Classical Ballet examiner, Vivienne Saxton.

A special mention to one student who gained the highest mark of 96/100 for our summer session – this was for Grade 1 ballet, and she only started ballet as a complete beginner a year ago. What makes this an even more wonderful achievement is that she took her Grade 2 ballet exam two weeks later (after only starting Grade 2 classes at Easter!) and gained 93/100 – huge congratulations!

Past Student success

Congratulations to one of our past students who won the Year 7 ballet award in their annual prize giving at ballet school.

He is currently studying at full-time ballet school, Elmhurst Ballet School (in association with Birmingham Royal Ballet) in Edgbaston.

He is photographed here being presented with his award by Caroline Miller OBE, Chief Executive of Birmingham Royal Ballet.

This is such a fantastic achievement. He only started ballet aged nine, and within two years went from a complete beginner and took every exam (gaining high Distinctions) from Primary to Grade 5 in this time. He was accepted as a Junior Associate of Elmhurst Ballet School within a few months of starting classes with us and was offered a place in the full-time ballet school by the time he was 11. He has also performed twice with Birmingham Royal Ballet in their professional production of The Nutcracker (once while he was a student with us, and once while at Elmhurst).

To win this end of this year award in his first year of full time training is a huge accolade.

Studio 10 Junior Associate

Congratulations to one of our nine year old students who is to begin as a Junior Associate of Studio 10 in Liverpool for the forthcoming academic year. Studio 10 (formerly Merseyside Dance and Drama Centre) is a highly-regarded full-time dance college (16+) that trains students in preparation for a career in Jazz and Musical Theatre. Past students have worked to great acclaim – credits including West End productions such as in Cats, Grease, West Side Story, Chicago, Miss Saigon, The King and I.

She successfully auditioned for the programme and will receive intensive monthly training in ballet, stretching and conditioning, contemporary, drama, musical theatre, tap and jazz, alongside continuing her core training with us.

Congratulations, you've worked very hard for this and we are proud of your achievement.
