Place accepted at The Hammond School

Huge congratulations to one of our 11-year-old students who has accepted her place to study full time at The Hammond School in Chester.

She will commence in Year 7 from September 2020. At The Hammond, she will board at the school to receive intense daily dance training alongside academics.

She came to us as a beginner and has gone on to pass all her Grades (Primary-Grade 5) with Distinction and is now studying for her vocational Intermediate Foundation - all achieved in just four years. In this time, she has been successfully cast in Birmingham Royal Ballet's professional production of The Nutcracker at the Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Royal Ballet's Swan Lake Dreams at Birmingham Hippodrome, and won multiple awards at the ISTD Junior and Senior Imperial Classical Ballet Awards. She has also been an Elmhurst Ballet School Junior Associate for three years and in Stagebox since September 2019 for elite musical theatre mentorship.

She will be greatly missed by everyone and we can't wait to see what the future has in store for her!

Online classes resume

It was lovely to resume our online classes today after our short Easter break.

Today we held classes for Silver Swans and ISTD ballet exam grades.

One of our lovely Silver Swans, looking stunning in red, was featured as part of the Royal Academy of Dance's e-newsletter this week.

We are offering live Silver Swans classes for all our Silver Swans. It's wonderful still being able to see our Silver Swans each week and to keep everyone dancing.

Celebrating 42 years!

Today marks our school's 42nd anniversary and we never imagined 42 year ago the situation we currently find ourselves in, or that our dance classes would be being taught online!

We have just had two weeks of fantastic live classes for both the children's school and Silver Swans®. It was wonderful also to welcome back a past student who moved to Scotland earlier this year. With kind permission from her current dance teacher, she was able to join in our online classes – everyone loved seeing her again!

It was lovely surprise to see the image of one of our students selected to appear in the ISTD's social media post about the Senior Ballet Awards. Our student competed in the Grade 5 class at the ISTD Senior Ballet Awards and was awarded The Nancy Robinson Cup for Musicality.

Online ballet classes for Silver Swans® and children's department

This week, we made history as the Janet Lomas School of Dancing went online for the first time!

We have provided all our students (both children's department and Silver Swans®) with a free pre-recorded ballet class. This took five days of filming and lots of editing, but we've had such wonderful feedback from the videos.

In these difficult times, we know the importance of dance, and didn't want any student to go without access to dance due to monetary restrictions.

We also have been offering live dance classes for both the children's department and Silver Swans®. It was wonderful for everyone to interact with each other once again, and to have a class with real-time corrections and feedback. This means that students don't have to compromise on their learning and development during this time.

We hope that all our students and their families keep well during this uncertain time, and we can't wait to see you all back at classes again.
