She qualified for the ballet awards late last year and went to compete at the prestigious annual awards in Crawley, West Sussex hosted by our exam board on Saturday 7th March. She competed in an initial round where students were taught exercises on stage and then performed a set solo. A small number of students were awarded a place in the finals where they performed the exercises again with additions and changes to the choreography and their set solo. This was performed in front of a panel of adjudicators made up of ISTD senior examiners and professional dancers, Francesca Filpi (ex-Royal Ballet) and Anita Young MBE (ex-Royal Ballet and now Upper School teacher at the Royal Ballet School).
There were large sections of competitors from across the UK and Europe – our student was one of the youngest in the section and competed against students four years her senior. We are so thrilled for her to have been given this prestigious award at the finals. An outstanding achievement, especially at such a young age. She is now an Imperial Classical Ballet Scholar for 2020-21. Comments are closed.
